Deinfluencing Kitchen Trends

If you’re looking for a designer who follows all the trends, in the nicest way possible, look elsewhere. Of course, we could not be professionals in this industry without following trends and remaining aware of popular finishes but we will never suggest something for your kitchen purely because it’s “on trend.” A kitchen needs to last for decades and should be designed for the people that live in it.

The fastest way to get sick of your home in 3-5 years is to fill it with the current trends. As we know, trends come and go very quickly and they are typically overdone and eventually oversaturate the market. We are more concerned with designing a kitchen that is appropriate for the architecture of the house and the way our clients will use it. For example, white hardware and faucets are coming at us for 2023. Do we think they are innovative, interesting and appropriate for the right project? Absolutely! If you are looking to create a unique and modern space with an unexpected twist, we will certainly consider them for your design plan. Would we use them just because they’re trendy? No way. We also always tell our clients not to pick a material just because it’s of the moment right now. The selection process of picking a material should include what works with all of the other features, what’s appropriate for the house and design plan and if the clients actually like it, not just because it’s trendy.

We went to the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Las Vegas and saw all of the shiny new things coming our way in the next few years. There is a lot that we are excited about and several things that we aren’t. Looking at you, coffee-faucet; yes, you read that correctly, a kitchen faucet that also serves coffee (and beer). We’re filing that one under: “Just Because You Can Doesn’t Mean You Should.” You don’t need the newest gadget to make your house a home, but we are always on the lookout for smart innovations that are well-tested and will improve the quality of our client’s lives. It can be fancy new technology in a toilet, or aesthetic options and new finishes (think brass shower niches, wood-handled faucets, and wood-trimmed refrigerator shelves. Working with a designer is a great way to infuse your home style and personality while ensuring it is a reflection of you. We can help you decide what you truly love and will enjoy for years to come!
